Holocaust (Shoah) Misconceptions Corrected

Educate yourself with Jan Peczkis, “Scholar and Thinker”

The list author says: “Holocaust: The genocide of 5-6 million Jews (Shoah) is an unquestioned fact of history, and this Listmania is not intended to minimize this in any way. However, a number of Holocaust misconceptions have arisen and been perpetuated. The Holocaust has been misrepresented as a unique event, qualitatively different from all other genocides. For example, it has incorrectly been argued that all known Jews accessible to the Nazis were targeted for death, and that this is supposed to elevate the Holocaust (Shoah) above all other genocides (whence the slogan, “Not all victims of the Nazis were Jews, but all Jews were victims of the Nazis.”).

We also hear that Jews were victimized by the Nazis more than any other group–which is true but disingenuous. The Slavic untermenschen (sub-humans) were too large a group to exterminate to a substantial degree, at least under wartime conditions. We also hear that Jews lost proportionately more at the hands of the Nazis than any other Nazi-identified group. This is true, but not by much. 6 of 11 million (? – Rather questionable -Admin.) European Jews perished, which is 55%, as compared with 50% of the Polish intelligentsia (broadly-defined).

Holocaust (Shoah) misconceptions become problematic when they lead to an over-attention to the genocide of Jews over that of non-Jews, notably in the American educational system. They become especially objectionable when they are employed in attempts to rewrite pre-existing laws on property succession, ex post facto, for the purpose of extracting financial compensation from non-German European nations.
