Yet reporter Katie Halper was just fired for stating the obvious.

Excellent comparison, but I wonder about the use of the words “race” and “religion” in this context.
Presumably, we are all part of the greater “family of humankind” although there are differences in beliefs. According to me, those differences add to the tapestry of life and should be celebrated without the hostile judgment that is imposed on those who are different.
