Indomitable Soldiers Biographies. Examines 75 Anti-Communist Guerrilla Leaders and Their Patriotic Deeds. Alleged Killing of Jews: Implications

FELLOWSHIP OF THE INDOMITABLE SOLDIERS is the title of this Polish-language book. It focuses on the inevitably-futile war (1944-1963) against the Soviet-imposed Communist puppet government that was forced on Poland in the closing stages of WWII. Almost without exception, the 75 guerrilla leaders died in combat or as a result of death sentences handed down by the sham Communist courts.

INDOMITABLE SOLDIERS: A SAMPLING OF PARTISAN WARFARE

In May 1944, a unit led by Hieronim Dekutowski “Zapora” (1918-1949) ambushed a 16-vehicle German convoy that carried Wehrmacht, SS, and gendarme. Only a fraction of the German forces got away: The Germans left 50 dead along with much ammunition. (p. 109).

The unit of Jan Kempinski “Blysk” (1921-1946), during the Nazi German occupation of Poland, liquidated 362 SS men and 7 German-serving confidantes. It scattered several German gendarme posts, and put bombs on 8 German trains. (p. 166).

In late July 1944, the Soviets parachuted-in large numbers of Communists into German-occupied Poland. These NKVD men were augmented by German deserters and by the local GL-AL. The NSZ fought against them. Each side had approximately 1,000 men. This took place near Rzabiec in Wloszczow province, and led to the defeat of the Communists. (p. 34).

Then the Red Army drove out the Germans. The NSZ continued fighting, and the last NSZ unit persisted in Soviet-ruled Poland until the mid-1950s. (p. 36).

The freedom-fighting Polish guerrillas enjoyed some temporary successes against the newly-installed Communist terror apparatus. The 200-man unit led by Marian Barnaciak “Orlik” (1917-1946), in May-July 1945, took a Communist prison in Pulawy, freeing 107 imprisoned freedom fighters. It temporarily gained control of Kock. In a battle at Stock forest, it defeated larger Communist units, killing 60 NKVD and 10 MO (Milicja Obywatelska) and UB (Bezpieka), at a loss of 11 men. (p. 71).

The unit led by Jozef Kuras “Ogien” (1915-1947), in 1945-1947, enjoyed considerable success. It killed over 60 UB functionaries, over 40 Communist militia men, and 27 NKVD functionaries. (pp. 177-178).

Franciszek Olszowka “Otto” (1924-1946) and his men assassinated some Soviet soldiers that were robbing the Poles. In late 1945 and early 1946, they shot several UB men and attacked several MO outposts. (pp. 228-229).

POINTED MESSAGES TO THE COMMUNISTS

Jozef Kuras “Ogien” sent a letter to the Polish Kremlin-stooge President Boleslaw Bierut, which said, “The unit fights for a free, independent, and truly-democratic Poland. We will fight for Poland’s eastern and western borders. We refuse to recognize the USSR’s intrusion into Poland’s internal affairs. Communism, which seeks to gain control of Poland, must be destroyed.” (p. 178).

Zygmunt Szendzielarz “Lupaszka” (1910-1951) wrote a brochure describing the motives for his actions. He said, “We are not brigands, as portrayed by the traitors and the black sheep of our nation. We want a Poland ruled by those…elected by the people…We fight for life and death against those who, because of Soviet gifts of money or status, go out and murder Poles seeking freedom and justice.” (p. 288).

A JEWISH MEMBER OF THE ZOLNIERZE WYKLECI

Stanislaw Ostwind-Zuzga (1899-1945) was born in a Jewish family. He was baptized a Catholic in 1920. He was the only Pole in the anti-Communist Underground, of Jewish background, that attained the rank of Major. When he fell into the hands of the Communists, they, upon learning of his Jewish roots, tried to talk him into switching sides. He refused, and was murdered. (pp. 231-232). (Clearly, the Communists did not think that the relationship of Jews and Communists was something incidental.)

THE COMMUNIST-SPONSORED SHAM BANDS (BANDY POZOROWANE)

Part of the Communist strategy of attempting to discredit the NSZ, in the eyes of the Polish population, was to send Communist agents, in bands that pretended to be NSZ, to rob the population. Today’s leftists, whether inadvertently or deliberately, confuse the deeds of the sham bands with those of the NSZ. (p. 40). Were the sham bands responsible for most of the postwar killings of Jews that, to this day, are blamed on Poles in general and the NSZ in particular?

KILLING COMMUNIST JEWS, NOT JEWS QUA JEWS

Jozef Kurasia’s unit, “Ognia“, is accused of gratuitously killing Jews in the region of Kroscienka. Author Saweczko points out that this was not true. The “Ognia” unit killed Jews that were UB functionaries, just as it killed UB functionaries that were Poles or Ukrainians. Furthermore, Jan Wachal was put to death, by his unit, for robbing and killing Jews. (pp. 178-179).

DUBIOUS ACCUSATIONS AGAINST ROMUALD RAJS “BURY’ (1913-1950) PERSIST TO THIS DAY

Upon capturing “Bury”, the Communists accused him of pacifying Belarussian villages, and executed him. (p. 258). In recent years, some lewaks (Polish leftists) have tried to revive and embellish these old accusations against “Bury”. So have some Belarussians, who conveniently forget the long history of Belarussian collaboration with both Nazis and Soviets.
