Polish MFA’s statement in connection with Emmanuel Macron’s declaration

Emmanuel Macron used his French presidential campaign to compare Poland to Putin’s dictatorship, placing Poland in the vicinity of “populist fascism” .
According to our sources, Macron’s attacks on Poland are not accidental. This is a deliberate anti-Polish action to bring Macron’s voice among the extreme “anti-fascist left”.
In the forthcoming presidential debate on Wednesday May 3rd Macron most likely will use similar comparison.
From the Polish point of view we have to counter this and give a clear signal that such actions by the likely leader of the Allied country are unacceptable.
We are one of NATO members and this kind of words weaken the cohesion of the alliance.
Macron’s speech and his anti-Polish stand is, in fact, against the “European values”.
The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement, the text of which is given below.

We are following with interest the election campaign in France on account of the country’s significance for the future of the EU. In this context, we regret to note that once again during the presidential campaign in France, an allied country that like Poland is a member of NATO and the European Union, a candidate for the highest office in the state has used unacceptable comparisons and mental shortcuts that mislead the public opinion.
The government of the Republic of Poland is not an ally of Ms. Marine Le Pen. Indicating an alleged alliance between Madame Le Pen and the chairman of Law and Justice (PiS) is a manipulation, and counting Jarosław Kaczyński among the group of “Le Pen’s friends who are violating many freedoms” is wrong and inappropriate.
Values and rules of free democracy are observed in Poland. The fundamental values that have been present in the Polish political culture and tradition for hundreds of years include respect and tolerance for people who have different political views or a different faith. We would also like to recall that anyone who is familiar with the history and the domestic political scene in Poland has no right to accuse Poles of sympathies for imperial Russia.
We expect that the future president of France – regardless of which candidate wins the election– will do an in-depth analysis and clarify any possible doubts in bilateral contacts before making judgements about other states’ policies.

Emmanuel Macron continues attacking Poland while hitting at his rival Marine Le Pen, and in the process directing his attack also on Poland.
Macron by recognizing Jaroslaw Kaczynski as “friend and ally” of Le Pen, also puts him in line with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Russian President Vladimir Putin, which in my opinion is quite an honor, as I personally have great respect for those Statesmen.
In the meanwhile, in another part of Paris regular clashes between police and protesters are taking place, which he ignores.
Even though there were some people in Poland sympathising with Russia, Macron’s anti-Polish attitude is wrong and inappropriately used in the FRENCH Presidential Campaign.
Shouldn’t he focus his attention on the French issues?
