The Katyn Massacre, the Gulag (Gulags), and Communist Genocide
The list author says: “Katyn was Genocide: Soviet Communists and the Nazi Germans both planned the destruction of Poles, but there were far too many of them to be annihilated in one fell swoop. At Katyn, the first step was undertaken: The destruction of the cream of Polish society: the intelligentsia, clergy, military officers, and other successful Poles. What happened at Katyn was aristocide (aristos=best), itself definitely a form of genocide (see VICTIMS OF POLITICS below).
However, the Katyn massacre was just one part of what many Poles have called the Golgotha of the East. Over 1.5 million Poles were deported to the interior of the USSR. A large fraction of these were murdered or died there from the deliberately horrible conditions.
After 50 years of lies, the Russians finally admitted fault for Katyn in 1990. Unfortunately, however, since that time, they have hardened their attitudes towards this genocidal crime. Also, some authors have falsely tried to marginalize Katyn as merely the product of Stalin and Stalinism. For these reasons alone, a study of the Katyn Massacre is as relevant as ever.
Seventy years have now passed since the commission of this heinous genocidal crime, but the memory lives on.
