Military History: 1939 Nazi Blitzkrieg Myths, Lies, and Misconceptions
The list author says: “Military History: The Nazi-German/Communist-Soviet conquest of Poland that began on September 1, 1939 also began World War II. Nazi German propaganda twisted a cavalry-tank encounter into a Polonophobic fairy tale of Polish cavalry charging German tanks. (Decades later, encyclopedias still repeat this Polonophobia, as well as the one about the Polish Air Force destroyed on the first day of the Blitzkrieg).
The Soviet-Nazi pact that divided Poland, contrary to Russian revisionists, wasn’t a clever time-stalling tactical move. It was very genuine–as proved by the tons upon tons of military-related material sent by the Soviets to the Nazis. (see Garlinski below).
Contrary to German revisionists, the German Fifth Column in Poland had been substantial, and massive atrocities against Polish civilians and disarmed POWs were conducted not only by the SS and Gestapo, but also by the Wehrmacht. The Luftwaffe systematically conducted indiscriminate bombings and strafings of civilians, and of targets having no military significance.
Far from being a “two-week war”, the last regular Polish Army unit, that under General Franciszek Kleeberg, didn’t surrender until October 5, 1939. My father, Kazimierz Peczkis, fought in it. He died October 5, 1989, exactly 50 years later to the day!
The surrender of the last regular Polish forces did not mean the end of organized resistance against the Germans. Far from it! See the Peczkis Listmania: GUERILLA WARFARE–THE UNTOLD STORY OF WWII (POLSKA PARTYZANTKA).
The 1939 war was only the beginning of Poland’s agony at the hands of the Germans. See the Peczkis Listmania: FORGOTTEN HOLOCAUST: NAZI GENOCIDE OF POLES–THE UNTOLD STORY.
For analysis of the false German victimhood at the hands of Poles, see the Peczkis Listmania: GERMAN REVANCHISM…
