The real story behind the refugee/migrant crisis in Europe is much stranger than fiction.

ScreenHunter_508 Sep. 11 12.36

If you watch the news, you’ve probably heard about the refugee crisis in Europe (or the “migrant crisis” as some are referring to it). Hundreds of thousands asylum seekers from the Middle East and Africa are flooding across the borders. As of July, European countries had received over 437,000 Asylum applications for the year. In 2014 just over 840,000 applications were received.

So why is this happening? Where are migrants/refugees coming from? Why are there so many of them?

The corporate media and the political establishment on both the left and the right will answer those questions with a combination of half truths and outright lies. This shouldn’t be surprising. It is in their interest to cover up the role they played in creating the crisis.

Let’s take a look at the top 7 countries origin for these refugees, Syria, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Eritrea, Serbia, Pakistan, Iraq. (Hmmmm… is there a pattern in that list?)

A lot of attention is being put on Syria, because that’s where the largest numbers are coming from. Hundreds of thousands are fleeing a conflict that has raged since 2011, and many are using this to push for an escalation of military force by the West. Because obviously if we bomb the heck out of the place, everything will go to normal.

Of course it sounds perfectly rational to take down ISIS, these guys are nasty, but upon closer inspection we find that the West is much more focused on removing President Assad from power. That might strike you as absurd, considering that the Syrian government is one of the last forces preventing ISIS from completely taking over the region. But it makes much more sense once you see how ISIS rose to power in the first place. Who funded them? Who armed them? Oh they don’t like to talk about that do they?

Since at least 2011 the U.S. and its allies have been backing rebel groups in Syria, the goal of course being regime change. This escalated right after they had finished toppling Libya. There’s a reason for that. The weapons from Gaddafi’s armories were shipped through Turkey into Syria and distributed to combatants. Even at the time it was clear that the majority of these weapons were ending up in the hands of jihadists.

The official narrative was that these rebels were freedom fighters, and that this was an organic uprising, an extension of the Arab Spring. The media and the political establishment in the both United States and Europe stuck to this story until it became impossible to hide the atrocities being committed by these so called freedom fighters. A Department of Defense document from 2012 showed that the U.S. government was fully aware of the fact that these fighters were connected to AQI or Al-Qaeda in Iraq (ISIS before they rebranded). The document showed that the U.S. knew that the fighters they were supporting intended to form a caliphate.

Not only did they know what was happening, they viewed it as a good thing. In fact in 2012 the CFR released an article openly stating that “In short, the FSA needs al-Qaeda now.”

Publicly Washington continued to claim that the West was only assisting the “moderate rebels”, the FSA in particular. However the FSA was very open about the fact that they regularly conducted joint operations with Al-Nusra, and Al-Nusra had direct alliances with ISIS.

No matter how you cut it the U.S. and its allies brought ISIS to power, and in doing so they they created a flood of refugees.

And let’s not forget how this all started. Who toppled Iraq and Afghanistan creating a power vacuum, unleashing decades of chaos and destruction, and creating breeding grounds for extremists? It’s no accident that these are among the top countries of origin for refugees.

While it might be convenient for Europeans to pin the blame entirely on the U.S., the reality of the matter is that European leaders have not only enabled Washington by refusing to call them out, but they also have played an active and direct role in the aggression. The blood is on their hands too, so it’s not in their interest to tell you the truth.

These factual omissions play right into the hands of a right wing backlash which frames this debate as simply an immigration issue, and plays off of the public’s distrust of Muslims. Those who actually created the mess are perfectly happy to let the victims become scapegoats.

This is a classic case of Problem, Reaction, Solution. You’re being tricked. You’re being herded towards more war, more chaos, more suffering. Which ironically will just create more refugees.

Israel Keeps Making, Not Taking, More Refugees

Israel won’t accept Syrian refugees because it was only by turning the majority of the Palestinians into refugees that a ‘Jewish state’ was created

Long before Syrian refugees found their way to Europe, the war-torn country’s neighbours have been hosting a staggering number of displaced persons – with one notable exception.

Syria has five neighbours: Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, and Israel (with the latter occupying the Golan Heights since 1967). According to recent figures, Turkey currently hosts 1.8 million Syrian refugees, Lebanon a further 1.17 million, Jordan around 630,000, and Iraq some 250,000.

A picture taken from the Israeli side of the border shows Syrian residents approaching the Syria-Israel boundary fence in the Israeli annexed Golan Heights near the southern Syrian village of Ar Rafide on May 7, 2013. (AFP)

Israel, however, with a GDP per capita almost double that of Turkey and five times as much as Jordan, has not accepted a single one.

This is unlikely to change any time soon. On 6 September, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the idea of accepting any Syrian refugees, stating: “Israel is a very small state. It has no geographic depth or demographic depth.”

The day before, former finance minister and Yesh Atid chair Yair Lapid expressed similar sentiments, arguing that Israel “cannot afford to get into the matter of the refugee crisis” since to do so, he added instructively, could “open a back door to discussing the right of return for Palestinians”.

Senior Palestinian officials, meanwhile, are urging Israel to permit Palestinian refugees from Syria to come to the Occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip.

An estimated 3,000 Palestinians have been killed in Syria since the start of the uprising. Around 80,000 of the 560,000 UNRWA-registered Palestinian refugees in Syria are no longer in the country. Yarmouk camp, once home to some 200,000, now has 5-8,000 civilians remaining. In the devastated camp, many still rely on food parcels, and over-stretched doctors are treating cases of typhoid.

On Monday, the PLO’s Hanan Ashrawi reiterated a call made by Mahmoud Abbas for “the international community, in particular the United Nations, to support our efforts to bring the Palestinian refugees to Palestine”.

Netanyahu’s comments at Sunday’s cabinet meeting were sparked by an intervention on Saturday by Zionist Camp head and Labor chair Isaac Herzog. Speaking on Channel 10 television, Israel’s opposition leader said it was “incumbent on Israel to take in refugees from the war”.

“Jews cannot be apathetic when hundreds of thousands of refugees are searching for safe haven,” Herzog added. Except, of course, if they are Palestinian refugees.

Herzog has been very direct about his desire to “keep a Jewish state with a Jewish majority.” Speaking at a conference in June, he stated: “I don’t want a Palestinian prime minister in Israel. I don’t want them to change my flag and my national anthem.”

Tzipi Livni, his Zionist Camp partner, sings a similar tune, defending the creation of a Palestinian “state” (read Bantustan) in order to “preserve the Jewishness of Israel’s Jewish and democratic state model” and “avoid the statistical demographic issue of Palestinians outnumbering Israelis”.

Many were recently appalled by Hungarian PM Victor Orban’s well-publicised remarks that the Syrian refugees “represent a radically different culture” and, purely because they are mainly Muslims, constitute a threat to “European Christianity”.

Few are aware, however, just how routine such rhetoric is in Israel, amongst cabinet ministers, lawmakers, academics, commentators and others. One Israeli journalist, explaining why “Israel can’t take in refugees,” put it like this:

The demographic threat is real, and the need to preserve the Jewish nation state’s character as a democracy doesn’t allow for large minorities. The current numbers of Muslims pose a complicated challenge even without additions.

For Israel’s Palestinian citizens, this discourse is par for the course, from newspapers discussing a “demographic intifada” to political leaders, like Netanyahu in 2010, declaring that a Negev “without a Jewish majority” would pose “a palpable threat”.

Israel’s settler-colonial anxiety goes largely unquestioned in the West. While The New York Times was scathing about Orban’s rhetoric, the paper uncritically noted the perception of “most Israeli Jews” that the Palestinian refugees’ return would be a “demographic death warrant”.

It is not just Palestinians. In 2012, after African refugees had entered Israel via the country’s border with Egypt, Netanyahu warned that “illegal infiltrators” could threaten the country’s existence “as a Jewish and democratic state”. Tel Aviv saw anti-African mob violence.

Even if, as some acknowledged, the new arrivals meant no harm, their continued migration had “the potential of destroying the State of Israel.” Israel, it was frankly explained, is “a country living in constant worry over its demographic balance, and determined to maintain its Jewish character”.

A “steel and barbed-wire fence on the Egyptian border” has since reduced the number of Africans entering Israel “from several thousand a year … to almost zero”. Meanwhile the 50,000 refugees who remain, mostly from Sudan and Eritrea, are targeted for removal.

Lapid’s comments point us in the right direction: Israel is unable to accept (non-Jewish) refugees because it was only through turning the majority of the indigenous Palestinian population into refugees that a “Jewish state” was established – and it is maintained by their continued exclusion.

Earlier this week, Netanyahu told European Council President Donald Tusk that Israel is the region’s “only vanguard of liberty,” adding: “We are the guardians of civilisation here in the heart of the Middle East against this new barbarism.”

This colonial ideology of exceptionalism, exemplified by the oft-repeated “only democracy in the Middle East” cliche, finds an uncomfortable echo in Israel’s refusal to accept Syrian refugees, even as its neighbours host them in their millions.

On Sunday, Netanyahu announced the start of construction of a 29-kilometre stretch of fence along Israel’s border with Jordan, just the latest barrier for a state of external and internal borders, segregated spaces and settlements.

Just as the Syrian refugees are the result of an international political failure, so too the Palestinian refugees’ exclusion from their homeland, an absence created and enforced by the barrel of a gun and a bureaucracy of apartheid, is the result of the failure to confront Israeli ethnocracy.

These are my thoughts, exactly. USA, with its lapdog Britain, were trying to bring Syria to its knees and after ISIS has toppled Assad – think they can just go in and take over. However the British were not fooled by the “sexing up” of the “Weapons of mass destruction” documents. Can you believe they are trying to pull that one again? And with a new Prime Minister, who is only concerned with his image, who is dithering about in the wind, it has all become an embarrassment. I came across your site by accident. I am not Polish, but live among many here in Britain.
Be prepared for war. Stockpile some tins of meat – you can always just eat them if it doesn’t happen.

What puzzles me about the supposed crisis is the stunning lack of women, children, and infirmed aka TRUE REFUGEES. The migrants are at least 75% young healthy able bodied men. A simple YouTube search will show good hearted Europeans trying to hand out supplies only to either be mauled by rowdy men or refused entirely. In a Hungarian train station a gentleman was handing out bread. He gave a loaf to a woman with her young children then had to hold on the bag he was carrying with an iron grip and practically run out of the station, because at least a dozen men attacked him greedily trying to take it all for themselves. When that failed they then resorted to attacking and harassing who else but the defenseless women and children. It was madness! Again and again it was the same scenario. Europeans in various nations even the police trying to be kind and assist the foreigners however they could, only to be abused and later vilified by Western media. I don’t blame Europe one bit for being wary. Whatever the hidden agendas of these savages,it is sure to be sinister. The United States will not share in them that’s for sure. There is already enough trouble with the Mexicans and Somalis. A number of 2016 presidential candidates are surging in popularity simply for promising to rid us of those two groups alone. Our vassals in NATO are on their own.
